Notifications & Slack
mngd has four channel-post events admins care about — app updates, macOS releases, offline endpoints, and the fleet digest — plus two user-facing DM streams (per-device summaries and silent-install transparency). Everything ships through the same Slack workspace install; this section covers how to point each stream at the right channel and how to make the wording yours.
Pages in this section
Section titled “Pages in this section”- Connect Slack — install the mngd Slack app and pick the default channel.
- Channel routing — send each event type to a different channel.
- Customize wording — override the header and intro line per event with variable substitution.
- Per-device DM layouts — tune what shows up in users’ personal DMs (sections, interactivity, group overrides).
- Pause & silence — temporarily mute alerts org-wide or let users silence transparency DMs.
Where the four events fire
Section titled “Where the four events fire”| Event | Trigger | Default content |
|---|---|---|
| App update available | A new app version lands in app_version_history (event-driven, no scheduler latency). | App name + version, fleet install count, patch policy CTA, release notes link if known. |
| macOS release | SOFA reports a new macOS release. | OS version + build, CVE count, RSR call-out when applicable, Apple security notes link. |
| Endpoint offline | A device hasn’t checked in past your org threshold. | Bullet list of devices + how long they’ve been quiet, consequence note. |
| Fleet digest | Daily/weekly schedule you set in Org defaults. | Verdict header (Action required / Worth a look / Patches pending / Looking good), priority-ordered findings, capacity stats. |
Where these settings live
Section titled “Where these settings live”All of the admin controls in this section are on Settings → Notifications → Org defaults. Per-user preferences (quiet hours, silent-install opt-out) live in the mngd Mac app, not the portal — see Per-device DM layouts for the split.
